ABSTRACT

Wio Business marks the inaugural project of Wio’s Design Team, conceived in partnership with the renowned R/GA agency. This collaboration laid the foundation for a digital product that brought with it a myriad of challenges, alongside significant triumphs. Its primary goal is to streamline the intricate banking environment in the UAE, thereby providing business owners with an accessible and efficient banking experience.

Design & Prototype

Right from the outset, the Wio leadership team had a distinct objective: to minimize the go-to-market time, aiming for a swift resolution of the significant challenges in UAE’s business banking sector. With a well-defined vision and a robust brand identity, we began designing features, drawing on assumptions underpinned by years of combined expertise in both traditional and digital banking.

Test

Even within the constraints of a tight timeline, our team successfully conducted few testing sessions. These were crucial in validating our assumptions and refining the product experience, guided by user feedback. This activity played an important role in the subsequent success of the Wio Business Beta release.

Development Hand-Off

Although significant portions of the product were still in the design phase, our MVP reached the stage for development. As the core engineering team began working on the style guide and key UI components, we initiated a collaborative, iterative development process with other engineering teams. This effort was essential in bringing the release the Beta version of Wio Business

Co-Design

As the public release of our first MVP approached, we recognized the importance of enhancing our long-term vision, aiming to optimally serve our users not just in the present but also in the foreseeable future. Our objective was to enable people and businesses to realize their potential supported by the most efficient financial management tools. To this end, we conducted internal co-creation workshops, which proved crucial in aligning our goals and gathering innovative ideas for future advancements.

My Role

  • Defining with R/GA Wio Business’s information architecture and brand application to the first UI components
  • Designing of the first version of the style guide and the UI library, supporting the following evolution into the initial version of Wio’s Design System
  • Designing of several features, including onboarding (account opening), invoicing, first release of local, international and bill payments, subscription plans, first release of multi-user accounts
  • Setting up DesignOPS, including guidelines for research, testing and design critique sessions
  • Organizing and facilitating co-design workshop together with the rest of the team
  • Coordinating the hiring process together with the Head of Design and the HR team

Digital Products

Weeks after launching Wio Business's Beta mobile version, the team also released its web version, offering business owners greater flexibility to access it under any circumstances.

Wio Business significantly shortened the bank account opening process for businesses, reducing it from over two months to just a few days.

Months To Break-Even

Ten months post its beta launch, Wio Business, the inaugural product from Wio Bank, propelled the company to reach its break-even point and subsequently achieve profitability.
